We’re off to Europe!

Ok I’m like several posts behind in my blogging and I really should be getting sleep but I’m just way to excited and anxious about tomorrow.  After a lot of planning and anticipation our vacation is finally here.  Barbara and I are going on a 3 1/2 week trip to Europe and we fly out tomorrow morning!

We don’t have a structured pre-booked itinerary to follow.  All we have is our airplane tickets and a couple of Eurail passes so it should be a pretty amazing adventure.

This is what we are hoping for:  We fly into Milan-Italy, check out the Last Supper painting and then immediately hop on a train to the Cinque Terra (five bordering towns that are built into the cliffsides along the mediterranean coast).  There we plan to hike on the “Lover’s Walk” trail that connects all five of the towns before we catch another train to our next destination, Venice.  I’m super excited about Venice, because even though I’ve already been Barbara hasn’t yet so it should prove to be really romantic for us. ;)  After that we’re off to Munich-Germany for Oktoberfest, then Prague-Czech Republic and then Vienna-Austria!  All of that should take us about 2 weeks.  Our final destination will be Croatia.  Barb’s father is Croatian so she has a lot of family still living there who we hope to meet.  It should be an interesting experience considering they don’t speak English and we don’t speak Croatian!  We hope to stop in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, Split and Dubrovnik, which is supposedly breathtakingly beautiful.  Whew…  None of the trip is certain so I’ll have to keep you posted regarding what really happens with our travels.  Hopefully I’ll get to stop by the occasional internet cafe to update my blog!

Ok…I’m getting sleepy.  Bye for now.

Personal Epiphany

When I was a kid, I loved to collect things. I had collections of everything including but not limited to bottlecaps, stamps (yup I’m a nerd :-), rocks, coins, rubberbands etc. There was something about the idea of accumulating things that I guess was appealing to me. I used to hold them close like they were valuable treasures. Each item had its own totally unique story. And there was this part of me that felt obligated to keep watch over them. I was thinking about this the other day. And as I sat their laughing at myself and thinking about how I grew out of that stage, it struck me…I’M STILL IN THAT STAGE! In fact, it was never a stage at all! That’s just who I am, I love collecting things, but now I just collect memories in the form of pictures. Instead of bottlecaps and coins, my treasures have taken the form of digital one-of-a-kind images. Moments that would have been lost in the passing of time, are now captured and stored in my personal collection. I love it! Hmmm…
