Barbara’s Flamenco Portraits - THE BIG PICTURE - Episode 96

My fiancee, Barbara is not only super beautiful, inteligent and fun, she’s also a really talented flamenco dancer!!  :)

Last week I set up our in-home studio to do a photoshoot of her dancing in her new flamenco dress and it was so much fun!

She has been doing Flamenco dancing for years now, and this last year had the honor of taking private lessons from Yolanda Arroyo.  Yolanda is a world famous Flamenco dancer from Barcelona, Spain.  Her and her husband Paco now live in Glendale and perform regularly.  Paco plays the guitar while she dances.

So this past weekend was Barbara’s first on-stage performance under Yolanda’s teaching.  She performed at a theater in Santa Monica to Paco’s guitar and Yolanda’s singing and she did such an amazing job.  I am so proud of her and wanted to share it with you all.

Oh and Barb and I are super excited because Yolanda and Paco will be performing at our wedding!!  Cool huh!?!

I’ll eventually post photos and video of her actual performance.  But for now here are the photos I took of her at our in-home studio.

Bikram Yoga Photoshoot

I was hired a few months ago to do a photoshoot of a group of Yoga Instructors for Bikram Yoga in downtown Fullerton. The story behind how I got the photoshoot is really random, as is most of my life’s occurrences. Over the last year I’ve been hired by Disney to do various photoshoots for their costume development department.  So anyways, one of the photoshoots I did was of a Prince Caspian costume and the guy modeling the costume was also the owner and lead instructor of Bikram Yoga! (I can’t post any of my Disney photos online.)  Long story short, Joe ended up hiring me to photograph him and a bunch of his instructors for their website and various marketing materials. Crazy huh!?

Photographing Yoga instructors in various Yoga postures/positions was an absolutely unique and eye-opening experience for me. I never realized how inflexible I am. The way they can bend their bodies is unbelievable and really actually inspiring. I’ve heard such great things about what Yoga can do for you in terms of all the health benefits like reducing stress etc. And the unique thing about Bikram Yoga is that it is done in a heated room! It’s supposed to help improve your flexibility and stamina. I think I might start going! All and all, it was a ton of fun and I’m excited to finally share some of the images with you all. If you’re at all interested in trying out Yoga, I encourage you to check out Bikram Yoga in dowtown fullerton.

Stay tuned for some behind the scenes video from the photoshoot!

My photos of the Tranquil Tea Lounge were published in 944 Magazine and OC Metro!!!

I was just recently published in the July issues of 944 Magazine and OC Metro for my photos of the Tranquil Tea Lounge.  Last month I was hired by Michellee Phelps and her brother John to photograph their new business in downtown Fullerton and it was such a cool experience.

Both 944 Magazine and OC Metro even had online versions of the articles as well as the printed copies. You can see the articles and my photos by following these links:

If you at all enjoy tea, coffee and good food, you MUST, I repeat, YOU MUST grab a friend and visit the Tranquil Tea Lounge.  The vibe there is great and the tea is amazing.  They have over 80 different loose leaf teas available!  I highly recommend the watermelon tea on ice…it’s incredible!  Oh and when you go, tell Michellee and John that I said hi! :)

If you want the latest news regarding the Tranquil Tea Lounge, you can follow them on twitter at http://twitter.com/TranquilTea

THE BIG PICTURE - Episode 35 - Behind the Scenes at Yumi’s Photoshoot

Where do I begin? I met Yumi at a photoshoot for Disney. She referred me to photograph her friend’s wedding. Yumi and I ended up sitting next to eachother over dinner at her friend’s wedding and we talked about doing a photoshoot together just for fun. I don’t think either of us were totally serious about it at the time. We both probably thought it would be fun, but didn’t think it would ever actually culminate into anything. But after many months of the topic being bounced around, we decided to finally make it happen. Yumi’s friend Tracie offered up her makeup expertise and my friends Vu and Lan (The Bui Brothers) were generous enough to bring their Alien Bees lights and show me how to set them up. This was my first time ever using a ring flash! And Lan brought his 5dmkii and captured the video for this episode. Thank you guys!!

There was no real theme or purpose behind this photo shoot other than to have a good time experimenting with lighting, makeup, hair and poses. It was so much fun and I hope you all enjoy the behind the scenes action and the photography! :)
