Downtown Long Beach - Avia Hotel - Engagement Photography - Melissa and Adrian

I’ve photographed weddings in Long Beach, but never an engagement session until now.  So I was thrilled when Melissa and Adrian told me that they wanted to have their photos taken there.  I love the downtown area of Long Beach because it has so much character.  Every where you turn is another really unique spot to take photos.  It has a tremendous variety of backdrops with different colors and textures.  Long Beach was the perfect location for Melissa and Adrian.  They are such an incredible couple with colorful personalities that flawlessly compliment each other.

I was also fortunate enough to take some photos of them at the top of the Avia Hotel, which is a newer hotel in downtown that has a really modern, fresh design.

I really had a great time getting to know them and Barbara and I are extremely excited about their upcoming wedding in Costa Rica!!  I can’t wait to see what endless possibilities await for their wedding photos!

Crystal and Brian - Engagement

This photo session was SO MUCH FUN!  The first half was done on Coronado Island, which is one of my favorite places.  It has such a relaxed slow-paced atmosphere, making it a wonderful place to escape from the usual SoCal hustle and bustle.  After Coronado we headed over to SeaWorld!!  Yup, SeaWorld is where Crystal and Brian first met.  Brian actually still works there as a diver.  He gets to dive into their massive aquariums on a regular basis and interact with the sea creatures.  Talk about a cool job!

The last photo shown here was taken in the Shark Encounter exhibit.  It was a little intimidating.  There are only two things in the animal kingdom that really scare me, sharks and black widow spiders.  Wow, I just got a chill while typing that…I’m not kidding.  It was probably the most difficult photo I’ve ever had to take.  But not because I was scared…I’m a pretty tough guy…at least that’s what my fiancee tells me! ;)  But seriously, the lighting was green, and very dark, the sharks were completely unpredictable and the whole time we were moving on a conveyor belt!  But it was so cool to see these massive deadly sharks floating overhead seemingly out of harms way.

Oh and I almost forgot, after the shoot was over Brian and Crystal took me on a special behind the scenes tour of SeaWorld!  I got to see the seal that was on the Jay Leno show, and then I got to pet a shark.  And if that wasn’t enough, I got to hold a giant Octopus in my hands.  It was the most amazing experience.   I’m not being over-dramatic either.  It was like interacting with an alien creature from another planet.  I put my hand into the tank of water and the Octopus looked up at me, thought I was going to feed him, and then proceeded to wrap his arms around my forearm to let me lift him out of the water.  It’s suction cups felt so strange and it’s skin was super slimy!  If you ever get a chance to hold an Octopus don’t pass it up it’s absolutely insane.  Thanks Crystal and Brian, you guys were so much fun.  I can’t wait for you wedding!
